Playoffs began in West Virginia in 1948 with two teams. Those numbers were
increased to 4 in 1972, 8 in 1978 and 16 in 1991.
In the years before 1991, I have noted teams with outstanding records(8-2
minimum) that did
not make the playoffs. Before 1965 losses to teams in a higher
classification did not count against you.
